Shelley Niro –
Niro has participated in a number of Red Tree collective projects, and has worked in collaboration with Kanbara, Mayrhofer and Hadzihasanovic. Niro is an internationally renowned senior Canadian film-maker and visual artist. The presentation of “Tree” in Cuba was particularly relevant in the context of the Cienfuegos Museum’s collection of aboriginal artifacts, and the younger generation of Cubans' renewed interest in environmental issues. The commitment to save native plant species has led art teacher Lysvani Gómez to cultivate more than 1400 seedlings of endangered plants. Niro’s video inspired the mutual intent to focus our next project on environmental issues in both locations.
